Rainy season

I prefer to work on a fine day. I don’t want water getting into the control box. This creates delays at times, sorry for that.

Don’t get stuck

Most automatic gate systems have a key or pin which you need to use when you are stuck inside your property if (when) your gate stops working. Contact me for advice if you are not sure what you need. Don’t wait for it to happen in the middle of the night, or when you are in a hurry. Some gate arms and operators have ordinary keys, some have plastic things with a triangular receptacle or pin. I don’t stock them, I have a few for my own use while servicing.

Solid keypads

I’ve been supplying and fitting a good quality keypad by Rosslare. It is metallic and works well, and priced competitively.
It is sealed also. I am still happy to fit the Farfisa type also. Cheap plasticky keypads aren’t worth fitting, and don’t last long.

Bad weather

makes gate repair difficult. Job planning at the moment is awkward because my schedule gets backlogged, sorry for delays. Word is getting out there about our unique assessment service, and this is a popular choice for our customers.

Gate problems not always obvious.

I have seen today another gate with hinge problems. If the bottom hinge is loose and wobbley, don’t expect your automation to work well forever. Gate arms put quite a bit of strain on the bottom hinges, sometimes pulling them out of the post partially. This should usually be repaired.

ECA Laser safety beam

This is great for retrofitting a safety beam across a driveway, because it eliminates the need for having to get a cable to the other side of the driveway (to the transmitter) Now I just attach the reflector to the other side, saving all kinds of hassle and money. There is no excuse now for not having a safety beam. There are many systems out there that I service which lack safety considerations.

I forgot one of my Friday appointments!

Last week was my busiest ever. I even forgot to go to one customer’s appointment on Friday for an assessment, All I could say was sorry.
There’s no excuses, all I can say is it might happen again one day, me being human and everything. Phone me and say “where the hell are ya?” if it happens to you.

What’s right with gates?

A fully fenced and gated place has many advantages- keeps animals or children in, (or animals and children out!) and is a deterrent for opportunistic theft. But stopping the car and getting out and opening the gate manually- well- that is inconvenient. By having a remote for your family and regular visitors you can avoid the hassle. If you have a fence, you should have a gate. If you’ve got a gate, automate!

First choice for servicing

My name is Shamus Flannigan. I am an experienced electrician/technician, (over twenty years experience) with a background in industrial electronics and control. I am a registered electrician and hold Advanced Trade Certificates in Industrial Electronics, and NZCE in Electronics and Computer Technology. All Gates Electrical is a business set up to provide expert repair and preventive maintenance to electric gates and access control. If your gate is still under warranty by the installer, by all means call them first. But our aim is to be your first choice to get a qualified and experienced technician on site to fix your electric gate system, once it’s out of warranty. My customers don’t really care about my qualifications, they just want to be able to push the button and open the gate! I can come to your home or business in Auckland for just $80 + GST and assess your gate problem, and advise you from there.

Don’t get stuck

Make sure you have a key or some other alternative to exit or enter your property. If you don’t have a key or other method to manually slide your gate open, or disengage the automation, then contact me or your installer for advice. Older automation sometimes is impossible to open manually, also. Check this, see that it works, or call us for advice. Happy New Year.
